Pontoon Boat Underskinning Material

Is the underskinning installed mainly between the 2 pontoons? (center of boat) i would think it would be pretty tough to work it over the top of the toons, and to the outer edges with wires and supports. randy. Re: underskinning material the first thing i would do is beat on the stuff you want to use, under deck is a really really violent place to be and whatever you use is gonna have to be really tough. we have had boats at work that had stainless rivets pulled out by water force..

Topic: underskinning a pontoon boat posted: 02/20/2009 at 10:12am i've done the search and found a few posts about underskinning but i was wondering if you have to run it all the way down the bottom of the boat.. Yes this is a "must do" for any pontoon boat. where do you guys get the metal for doing this underskinning? i would like to use that .030 aluminum and the stainless self tapping screws. they sell new material and it cost me $182 for one 4x8 sheet and three 22 1/2" x 53" pieces. the #12 x 1" ss sheet metal screws cost $34 per hundred. A lot of people have put underskinning on their toons and have reported excellent results, but unless the boat has a fin stuck to the side, it's worthless. pictures of a pontoon riding along at 10 mph with no splash hitting the crossbeams doesn't impress me at all..
