Aluminum trailers weigh on average 10 – 15% less than steel trailers. this means that you’ll be able to haul more with an aluminum trailer versus a steel one. (your haul weight is your trailer weight minus your axle load bearing capacity.). Weight - there isn’t much argument that aluminum weighs less than classic steel. while the price of a steel trailer might be lower when purchased, the second you get an aluminum trailer out of the road you instantly begin saving money.. All, i am considering a custom built trailer for my 276 ssx. i live in a fresh water area. i will be keeping the boat on the trailer. it is aluminum, three axles, electric/hydraulic brakes, brakes on on three axles. rated at 15k pds. what are the advantages and/or disadvantages of an aluminum vs. steel trailers. obviously the aluminum doesn't rust..
The only real benefit of an aluminum trailer is the weight, they weigh about half as much as a similar gvw galvanized trailer. this can be the difference of your vehicle being able to tow your boat or not.. Most boat trailers are aluminum because it's lighter and less prone to corrosion than steel. but it's also more expensive than steel. still, unless you'll be using it in fresh water only, aluminum is the better choice by far.. Galvanized vs aluminum trailers. discussion in 'boating discussion' started by bella star, nov 14, best to go aluminum since an aluminum trailer + boat will be slightly shy of that 10,000 lbs. galv will be over. if you plan to go triple axle, then you will be over anyway. never mind the fact that aluminum is a fraction of the weight.
