I am wiring my small fishing boat with navigation lights. both lights have 18 awg wire. the front light is an led light whereas the back light is a bulb. the only time you want to drop down in fuse size would be if you are protecting an instrument connected to the wire such as a radio but typically, they already have their own fuses.. Hey guys, i have a quick boat wiring question. i currently own a 2007 glastron 27 footer and want to upgrade all of my navigation lights to led.. Hi, what size fuse (amps) would best suit nav lights on a standard 5 meter boat? i was using a 5 amp fuse but when i brought a new combination switch it came with a 15 amp blade fuse..
Fuses are rated by amperage and are there to protect the wire from overheating and starting a fire. fuses must be rated at the same or less rating of the wire. so if you have a wire that is rated at 15 amps you need a 15 amp fuse. this is why on bigger boats you will see many separate circuits for different systems on the boat.. You need to determine the power draw (amps) for each load and size the wire to ensure no more than a 3 to 10% voltage drop and fuse the circuit appropriately. do a google search for marine voltage drop calculator.. 3519102000 3520202000 exterior lights interior lights sail boat navigation series 41 series 43 series 44 series 55 special lights underwater lights news aqua signal goes live by jorg losekamm on june 7, 2018.
